READ John chapter 12:12-50 and answer these questions (reviewed at Connection Groups on December 15, 2019).

  1. WHAT DOES THIS PASSAGE SAY? Jesus made his mission plain- obeying the Father’s plan of sending Jesus on a salvation mission.
  2. WHAT DOES THIS PASSAGE MEAN TO ITS ORIGINAL AUDIENCE? Jesus is calling God his “father” over and over. The Jewish audience is divided; once again contemplating Jesus’ claims, his actions, and OT prophecies.
  3. WHAT DOES THIS PASSAGE TELL US ABOUT GOD? God the Father is going to great lengths to save mankind. Even though some men will oppose him the Father will stay the course with his plan.
  4. WHAT DOES THIS PASSAGE TELL US ABOUT MAN? Man’s disbelief and rebellion against God is chipped away by the actions of Jesus, not just his claims.
  5. WHAT DOES THIS PASSAGE DEMAND OF ME? I am compelled to be a “child of light” and not just for my sake.
  6. HOW DOES THIS PASSAGE CHANGE THE WAY I RELATE TO PEOPLE? My mission is to point the spotlight on Jesus’ mission.
  7. HOW DOES THIS PASSAGE PROMPT ME TO PRAY? Father, thank you for the way you have glorified yourself through Jesus. Take my life and glorify yourself however you please.
