READ John 3:22-36 and answer these questions (reviewed at Connection Groups on September 29, 2019).
- WHAT DOES THIS PASSAGE SAY? John the Baptist fully points God’s spotlight on Jesus, God’s son, and says it is time for his own spotlight to dim.
- WHAT DOES THIS PASSAGE MEAN TO ITS ORIGINAL AUDIENCE? John the Baptist had a huge following with Jews longing for the Messiah. He points them squarely to Jesus, the Messiah.
- WHAT DOES THIS PASSAGE TELL US ABOUT GOD? God sent his son to save mankind from righteousness wrath.
- WHAT DOES THIS PASSAGE TELL US ABOUT MAN? We are prone to “miss” great things that God is doing- maybe because we have little faith, or may because we were expecting it to look differently.
- WHAT DOES THIS PASSAGE DEMAND OF ME? “He must increase, but I must decrease.”
- HOW DOES THIS PASSAGE CHANGE THE WAY I RELATE TO PEOPLE? There are people in my life I have substantial influence with. I need to steward that well.
- HOW DOES THIS PASSAGE PROMPT ME TO PRAY? Father, help my own self promoting passion to whither and my passion for you to thrive…for your glory. Thank you fo completely paying for the wrath I earned.
