READ John 4:1-45 and answer these questions (reviewed at Connection Groups on October 6, 2019).
- WHAT DOES THIS PASSAGE SAY? Jesus leads his disciples to minister in the most unlikely place to the most unlikely people.
- WHAT DOES THIS PASSAGE MEAN TO ITS ORIGINAL AUDIENCE? Jewish folks hearing about this, particularly the very religiously devout, would be appalled that Jesus would even go to Samaria- let alone minister there.
- WHAT DOES THIS PASSAGE TELL US ABOUT GOD? God’s will is far superior to human tradition or culture. Jesus’ good news is for everyone.
- WHAT DOES THIS PASSAGE TELL US ABOUT MAN? No one is too far away for God to reach.
- WHAT DOES THIS PASSAGE DEMAND OF ME? Jesus didn’t sugar coat and he didn’t blast. He explained the good news with grace and truth.
- HOW DOES THIS PASSAGE CHANGE THE WAY I RELATE TO PEOPLE? I need to be led by the Holy Spirit breath by breath to walk the line of grace and truth.
- HOW DOES THIS PASSAGE PROMPT ME TO PRAY? Father, help me to love people, all kinds of people, the way you do. May your love compel me to extend both grace and truth.
