READ John chapter 14 and answer these questions (reviewed at Connection Groups on December 29, 2019).

  1. WHAT DOES THIS PASSAGE SAY? Jesus tells his disciples how the Holy Spirit will work in their lives.
  2. WHAT DOES THIS PASSAGE MEAN TO ITS ORIGINAL AUDIENCE? This triune-centered conversation was likely very difficult for faithful Jewish people to take in.
  3. WHAT DOES THIS PASSAGE TELL US ABOUT GOD? God does not leave us alone and unequipped for this world or the world to come.
  4. WHAT DOES THIS PASSAGE TELL US ABOUT MAN? Man has a responsibility to God by believing in Jesus and following the leadership of the Holy Spirit.
  5. WHAT DOES THIS PASSAGE DEMAND OF ME? Verse 12 says as a follower of Jesus I will do “greater works” if I will believe/trust in Jesus being who he said he was/is/is to come.
  6. HOW DOES THIS PASSAGE CHANGE THE WAY I RELATE TO PEOPLE? Following Jesus is more than intellectual belief- its total reliance and the Spirit moves us to action. Many still haven’t experience this.
  7. HOW DOES THIS PASSAGE PROMPT ME TO PRAY? Lord, help me to trust Jesus more and more. Empower me with your Spirit for your mission for your glory. Amen.
